Bedroom Transformation Projects

Here we are looking at some of our most recent bedroom transformation projects. Read on for some inspirational ideas for beautiful bedrooms…

Beautiful bedrooms are vitally  important

The JLE Studio team works across many projects, from individual rooms or ground-floor kitchen re-configurations to whole-house refurbishments. Whilst kitchen and living areas may attract the most attention, the team is always aware of the importance of the bedrooms. Our bedrooms are designed to be unique and individual whilst fitting in with the other rooms in the home. Each bedroom must be supremely comfortable and thoughtfully designed to appeal to all family members and their guests. Our bedrooms have a hint of glamour whilst still feeling cosy and comfortable. Calm colour schemes for bedroom redesigns

It’s quite usual for our clients to specify classic, calm colour schemes for their main bedrooms. Once the architectural design features are in place, there is often an attitude that clean, calm colours are a perfect solution. Our bespoke furniture, including built-in wardrobes and dressing rooms, is often a subtle mixture of soft colours and finishes. Neutral tones are considered to create a softer, welcoming ambience in a bedroom, and, of course, highlight colours can be introduced in the form of cushions, lighting and occasional furniture.

How to renovate a bedroom: the walls and the floors

Our clients nearly always request that the bedrooms be fully carpeted. Luxurious carpets feel gorgeous underfoot, and also create a visual flow throughout the rooms. If there are en-suite bathrooms, they will very often have tiled floors in similar shades. Another popular choice for walls is textured wallcoverings, sometimes paper, sometimes silk or other fabrics. These textures and colours can be matched to the furniture and paint shades.

Our Belgravia Pied a Terre project

How to renovate a bedroom from start to finish

This gorgeous three-bedroom Grade II Listed apartment was completely refurbished, so the entire project required planning permission and listed building consent for the alterations.

We designed three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The colour schemes embraced sophisticated neutrals, textured finishes and elegant furniture. As experienced architects and interior designers, we are very aware of how important proportion and symmetry are within our schemes.

Wall mouldings will be placed to reflect traditional designs, and can be used to emphasise the positioning of furniture, such as in the master bedroom in our Belgravia Pied a Terre project, shown above.

Bedside tables are designed to sit perfectly in the allocated spaces, and bedside lighting will be positioned accordingly.

That is where meticulous detail is so important at the planning stages: ambient wall lights, specific task lights or bedside lights will need to be accurately positioned. Statement headboards often feature in our transformations. They are usually upholstered and become a style centrepiece in the room.

Our Chelsea Arts & Crafts House project

This project features one of our very favourite bedrooms. At first glance, it seems to be a simple, comfortable room, but upon further inspection, it reveals very carefully chosen furnishings and clever accessories.

The headboard matches the bedside cabinets, as well as a chest of drawers on the opposite wall. The headboard has padded panels, with small-scale reading lights fitted onto the timber surround. Bedside chests are compact and elegant, and of course, proportionally perfect for the size of the room. The wallcovering has a slight sheen with a silk-like texture and appearance.

The window treatments are also simple and elegant; wave pleated interlined curtains are suspended from a black pole, and a sheer blind for privacy that also diffuses bright sunlight. The accent colours are mid-blue and terracotta, used for the cushions, lamp bases and occasional chair.

What we particularly appreciate is the way these colours were chosen to complement the painting that hangs near the little armchair. If our clients wanted a change of colour scheme in the future, swapping cushions and lamp bases could create a different emphasis.

The JLE Studio expert view

As far as our architects and designers are concerned, every room in every home is treated with the same consideration. All rooms must look good, meet expectations and serve their individual purposes.

Bedrooms deserve their own touch. These spaces require a distinct atmosphere, defined by quiet luxury, peacefulness and comfort. We consider lighting, privacy and the flow between other bedrooms and bathrooms to achieve the best bedroom designs for our clients.
