Smart system home refurbishments
The homes we renovate and rebuild usually include an array of smart systems to help our clients run the house efficiently and effectively. Smart house systems can be integrated to control various features from heating and air quality to security, lighting and audio-visual systems.
What is a smart house system?
A home that includes devices that are connected to the internet and controlled by a smartphone, app, laptop or computer is described as having smart systems. Individual systems can be linked together, or they can be operated individually. The system can be wireless or hard-wired, or a combination of both. We work with various partners, including Rako and 31Ldn, to provide the ideal smart house systems for our clients.
Smart system home refurbishment
Many homes have smart systems that are a work in progress, perhaps being added to or extended as required. Systems can work in tandem with existing home hubs such as Siri or Alexa.. The ideal scenario is a complete smart house system that is set up as part of a full-house refurbishment.
What systems can be smart?
Smart security systems are required in most homes and can range from cameras and movement sensors to remote identification, door controls and exit/entry systems. Monitoring can be accessed from inside the home or at a distance via smartphone, tablet or computer remotely. Almost every room in the house can include a smart system. Kitchen appliances may include smart refrigerators or wine coolers that are linked to the internet and can be remotely controlled and monitored.
Smart audio systems
Living, dining and family rooms will have audio-visual systems that are linked together. Most commonly, television and music streaming can be connected to speakers and screens throughout other areas of the home. A cinema room can include smart audiovisual controls for the screen and sound.
Smart lighting system for the home
Smart systems can also monitor the lighting and air con/heating to maintain the most comfortable atmosphere in a room that is likely to have sound insulation and blackout window treatments, such as a home cinema.
Smart lighting systems can be integrated to highlight architectural features such as decorative cornicing, floating ceilings, bespoke shelving and so on. Smart lighting systems can also be included in bathrooms, bedrooms and dressing rooms.
Smart energy management systems
Smart thermostats can be monitored and set to the required temperatures – and adjusted remotely if required or plans change, so that the house doesn’t need to be heated at certain times.
Curtains and blinds can also be smart and programmed to open and close at regular times. Smart blinds are useful additions to hard-to-reach windows, perhaps in a loft room or roof lights in a kitchen-dining extension. There are also simpler automatic blind and curtain systems which can be electronically or battery operated and work on separate timer systems.
Our smart system approach
Smart house systems need to be accurately and thoughtfully planned, and our architects will broach the subject at the very beginning of the project planning.
It is generally more cost-efficient to plan a whole-house smart system refurbishment as early in the process as possible. Then our designers are aware of the connectivity requirements and will accommodate the required systems in their plans.
We will discuss the positioning of cameras, control panels, remote controls, accessibility and all the details. For large projects, we may work in partnership with smart system experts.
