Interior finishes: Kitchens and bathrooms

Our interior designers work hard to bring beautiful surface ideas to our clients. We present mood boards to get a feel of the direction our clients want to go in, and will then move on to choosing specific colours, materials and finishes.

Planning Finishes: Initial ideas

As full-house refurbishment specialists, our interior designers are involved with large-scale projects.

A single project can include multiple bathrooms, shower rooms and cloakrooms as well as a show-stopping kitchen with perhaps an adjoining utility room, laundry room and boot room.

All of which need high-quality surface choices for wall finishes and worktops in particular. Naturally, these rooms have to place practicality first and foremost, whilst also concentrating on gorgeous colours, finishes and surface materials that are appropriate to their intended use.

Our designs will include combinations of materials which may be real marble, granite and stone or clever reproductions made from hardwearing materials such as quartz, ceramic or solid-surface materials.

Our designers will be looking at bringing together clients' wishes with creative colour schemes, innovative materials and logical solutions. Our kitchens will be perfectly practical spaces for both cooking and entertaining, whilst featuring intriguing colour palettes and tactile finishes. Our bathrooms will be comfortable in use, whilst combining gorgeous materials and striking colour schemes.

Luxury bathroom finishes

Each bathroom is always designed as a luxurious and comfortable space that is

convenient to use, looks amazing and will be straightforward to maintain. We often use real marble for countertops and basins, and continue the marble theme for upstands and backsplashes. If we are looking for a very specific colour theme and scale of pattern, our designers will also consider materials that have the appearance of marble, such as porcelain surfaces, ceramic tiles or quartz panels. Shower panels and large format bathroom tiles can create a perfect marble-like look, whilst being a little easier to look after.

High-end kitchen finishes

The kitchen can be the main attraction in some of our projects. It is often open plan to the dining and family areas and considered the everyday heart of the home. There will be other important rooms, of course - living and entertaining areas - but the kitchen always holds great importance to our clients.

There are two main choices to be made: the kitchen cabinet finishes and then the wall and work surfaces, such as upstands and splashbacks. It usually follows that the colour/material for the kitchen cabinetry is chosen first, and then the surfaces. For both kitchens and bathrooms, we may work with materials like quartz and porcelain, such as Caesarstone, seamless solid surface materials such as Corian, and large-format ceramic slabs such as Laminam.

Co-ordinating cabinetry

We may be looking for surface materials to coordinate with the bathroom or kitchen cabinetry, or vice versa, depending on which decision is made first. Sometimes a client will very specifically want a particular timber finish or paint colour, and it will become our task to provide a surface material that complements that wish. Some of our kitchens may include stainless steel work surfaces to provide that professional-chef style ambience, or perhaps timber butcher-block style sections or freestanding trolleys. Whether the cabinetry is natural timber or painted, we will find a suitably interesting work surface to create a striking scheme.
